KUCHING: The upcoming Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting in October will be the last of the current term, with further details to be disclosed a day before proceedings begin.
Speaker Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar said he would hold a press conference ahead of the sitting, which is scheduled from Oct 12 to 21.
“Of course, this is our last DUN because after that, the Dewan expires. As usual, I will call a press conference for the DUN.
“My office has not received any Bills from the government, not yet,” he said.
He told reporters this after officiating the Aku Kasih Malaysia: Pimpinan Belia Negeri Sarawak seminar at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly Auditorium here today (Sept 22).
On the sitting dates, Asfia noted that they had already surfaced publicly before being officially confirmed.
“The date has been disclosed — not from the secretary or from me, but from the opposition,” he said.
Pending assemblywoman Violet Yong had on Aug 13 commented on reports that the sitting would be held from Oct 12 to 21, at a time when the DUN secretariat had yet to issue an official notice.
She had also predicted that the DUN would be dissolved after the sitting, with the state election possibly held in November.
The Oct 12 to 21 sitting was subsequently confirmed in a Sarawak Government Gazette notification dated Sept 10.
The current 19th DUN, whose term began on Feb 14, 2022, will automatically dissolve on Feb 14 next year if it is not dissolved earlier.
Under the State Constitution, a state election must be held within 60 days of the dissolution of the DUN.
However, no date has been announced for an early dissolution or the next state election.
