KUCHING: The ITF World Junior Tennis Competition Asia/Oceania Final Qualifying 2026 got underway at the Sarawak Lawn Tennis Association (SLTA) Centre today with 16 nations competing for places on the world stage.
A total of 16 teams, comprising 48 players, are taking part, featuring some of the region’s top Under-14 talents.
The opening ceremony was officiated by acting CEO of Sarawak Sports Corporation (SSC) and acting drector of Sarawak State Sports Council (MSNS) Khairul Nizam Morshidi, who represented Deputy Minister for Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu.

“This stage is where champions begin their journey.
“This tournament is not only a platform for competition, but also an opportunity to build friendships and cultural understanding,” he said.
The competing teams are Korea Republic, Kazakhstan, Japan, Indonesia, India, Hong Kong, China, Australia, New Zealand, Vietnam, Singapore, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Uzbekistan, Chinese Taipei and hosts Malaysia.
At stake are four qualification spots for the ITF World Junior Tennis Finals in Prostějov, Czech Republic, scheduled from Aug 3 to 8.
