KUCHING: A man who claimed he was assaulted and robbed at Lorong Darul Hana here was instead found to have lodged a false report to replace his identity card.
Kuching police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said police believed the report was lodged to facilitate the process of obtaining a new identity card.
“The 24-year-old local man claimed he was assaulted by a group of individuals and that his personal documents were missing following the incident.
“However, investigations later found the incident never occurred,” he said in a statement.
Further checks also revealed the man had previously lodged four reports related to the loss of his identity card.
The case is being investigated under Section 182 of the Penal Code for giving false information to a public servant.
Alexson advised the public against lodging false police reports, warning that stern action can be taken against offenders.
