SIBU: The Tiong Hin Schools Alumni Association will be hosting the 2025 Inter-Alumni Association Basketball Invitational Tournament to be held at SMK Tiong Hin from August 13 to 21.

Bukit Assek Assemblyman, Joseph Chieng Jin Ek, who is also the chairman of the Sibu Methodist Schools Alumni Association (SMSAA) held a brief yet meaningful handover ceremony on Friday night.

During the event, the basketball team’s jerseys and association flag were officially handed over to team leader, Kapitan Ling Hua Wei, ahead of their participation in the upcoming basketball tournament.

The event aims to promote friendship and cooperation among alumni associations through basketball.

This year’s SMSAA basketball team is coached by Daniel Lau, with Tony Low serving as assistant coach. The players are all alumni who are passionate about basketball and actively involved in alumni activities.

In his address at the handover ceremony, Chieng encouraged the players to give their best on the court, strive for excellence, and bring pride to their alma mater.

More importantly, he urged them to take this opportunity to strengthen bonds and foster friendship with members from other alumni associations.

“Sports is not only a contest of strength and skills but also a display of friendship and team spirit.

“I hope everyone will learn and encourage one another throughout the games, and showcase the unity and spirit of the SMK Methodist to all,” he said.

Chieng supported the players to compete with unity and determination, embracing the spirit of both sportsmanship and camaraderie.
