THE Sustainable Resources and Wastes Management Bill is notably relevant to Balingian constituency, an area marked by industrial development, active agricultural zones and townships experiencing steady growth.

Balingian assemblyman Abdul Yakub Arbi said the legislation is expected to help prevent illegal dumping, improve domestic and commercial waste handling, strengthen recycling awareness and ensure sustainable practices in new developments.

He said this when supporting the Sustainable Resources and Wastes Management Bill during the DUN sitting today.

He noted that the Bill also aimed at empowering local agencies and communities to manage resources and waste more efficiently, while creating opportunities for green industry development, recycling initiatives, and circular-economy activities that could boost the local economy.

“It seeks to regulate waste segregation, transportation, facility standards, and enforcement measures across Sarawak.

He added that the Bill also provides dedicated governance, strong regulatory and enforcement mechanisms, sustainable financing, and opportunities for innovation, investment and community participation.

“It places Sarawak on a strong footing to address environmental challenges and seize opportunities in the emerging global green economy.” he said.
