THE Sarawak Government has been urged to prioritise two pressing infrastructure projects in Lundu District which are the upgrading of the Biawak Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security (ICQS) Complex and the construction of a new District Hospital.
Billy Sujang (GPS-Opar) said that upgrading the Immigration, Customs, Quarantine, and Security (ICQS) complex at this entry point is crucial, as it serves as a key gateway connecting Sarawak with West Kalimantan, Indonesia.
“The Biawak International Entry Point is a strategic infrastructure of great importance, particularly for the Opar constituency and the Lundu District.

“Currently, the Biawak ICQS is in a very basic state and lacks adequate physical facilities, modern technology, and user comfort.
“In contrast, on the Indonesian side, the neighbouring Pos Lintas Batas Negara (PLBN) Aruk has undergone a major transformation and is now equipped with modern amenities, advanced security systems and user-friendly infrastructure,” he said.
Billy said this when proposing a motion for the debate on the TYT’s address at the fourth meeting of the fourth session of the 19th Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting today (May 21).
He added that to position the Biawak International Entry Point as a primary gateway to Nusantara, it is essential that comparable and competitive facilities are established to support cross-border trade, bilateral tourism, stronger diplomatic relations and international commerce.
“Therefore, it is proposed that the Sarawak Government consider expediting the upgrade of this international entry point by utilising state funds as an initial step,” he added.
On healthcare, Billy highlighted the urgent need for a new Lundu Hospital, calling the current facility, which is over 60 years old, outdated and no longer fit to serve the local population.
“Given that the site for a new hospital is already prepared, I and my fellow colleague from Tanjong Datu constituency had brought up this issue in the August House last year. We urge the Federal Government to approve and allocate funds for the construction of a new Lundu District Hospital,” he said.
