SARIKEI: The Sarikei Landowners Association’s 2026 Chinese New Year celebration brought the community together to honour senior citizens, recognise top students and reaffirm support for education.
Deputy Minister of Plantation and Commodities Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii said such gatherings play an important role in strengthening unity within the community.
“Events like this not only strengthen community unity, but also recognise the contributions of senior citizens and encourage the younger generation to continue excelling in their studies,” he said.
He said this when officiating the 2026 Chinese New Year Celebration, Senior Citizens Appreciation Ceremony and Outstanding Students Awards presentation organised by the association at a hotel on Feb 27.
Huang, who is also Sarikei MP added that shop house owners are among the key drivers of the local economy, contributing to business growth, job creation and the urban development of Sarikei.
According to him, the organisation of the outstanding students awards reflects the association’s commitment to supporting education as the foundation of societal and national progress.
“Education is a long-term investment that will determine the future of the next generation. I hope students will continue striving hard to achieve even greater success,” he added.
He also touched on the completion of the road and bridge project linking Sarikei to Tanjung Manis in March last year, describing it as a catalyst for economic growth in Sarikei and its surrounding areas.
“The implementation of this project is the result of public support and the state government’s commitment under the leadership of the Premier in ensuring balanced and sustainable development,” he said.
He also announced a contribution of RM30,000 to the Sarikei Landowners Association to support its annual activities, welfare programmes and educational initiatives.
