SARIKEI: Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Sustainability, Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii, has secured a grant amounting to RM300,000 through the Unit for Other Religions (UNIFOR) for the Sarikei Orthodox Buddhist Association.
He said, in a press statement on Wednesday, that this funding would support the construction of a seven-storey pagoda.
Huang presented the grant to the association, underscoring his commitment to fostering religious development. Over the years, he has channelled approximately RM1.51 million to the association for various development projects.
He added, under the leadership of chairman Chan Phan Chan and the collaboration of committee members, the association’s infrastructure has grown significantly with the construction of the seven-storey pagoda actively underway.

Once completed, Huang hopes the pagoda will become a landmark attraction here.
“We deeply appreciate Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg’s dedication to the welfare of the people and his ongoing support for Sarikei and Meradong’s development.
“Sarawak is fortunate to have a leader who continually strengthens unity, political and economic stability, sustained development, and the overall well-being of the people,” he said.
Huang has actively sought funds for the Sarikei Orthodox Buddhist Association through the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP), securing RM196,100 in 2016, RM100,000 in 2021, RM100,000 in 2022, RM600,000 in 2023, and RM200,000 in 2024.
Additionally, he obtained RM15,000 through UNIFOR in 2021 and RM300,000 this year, totalling RM1.51 million for religious and community projects.
Meanwhile, Chan expressed gratitude for Huang’s steadfast support, noting that financial aid has previously been used to enhance facilities, including roof construction for activity areas, hall upgrades, the seven-storey pagoda, and other amenities.
