KUCHING: The allocation distributed through the Unit for Other Religions (Unifor) for the development of houses of worship reflects the Sarawak government’s steadfast commitment to upholding harmony across the state.
Kalaka assemblyman Mohamad Duri said Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg had introduced an important initiative to nurture prosperity amid Sarawak’s racial and religious diversity.
“In the Kalaka constituency, a total of RM350,000 was allocated to the Saratok Buddhist Religious Association to build a new house of worship.
“In addition, the Ji Yuan Shan She Saratok Moral Charity and Welfare Association received RM24,700 to purchase air-conditioners, folding tables, and plastic chairs for their activities.”
He added that Unifor’s financial contribution is a manifestation of the Sarawak government’s commitment to promoting harmony and supporting the development of non-Islamic houses of worship.
Mohamad said this when presenting the cheques to the respective associations here on Tuesday (Nov 4).
He commended the Sarawak government for establishing Unifor, which plays a vital role in safeguarding the welfare of non-Muslim religious communities and strengthening interfaith harmony throughout the state.
“Since its establishment, Unifor has served as an important bridge in ensuring that the needs of Sarawak’s multireligious communities, including those in rural areas, are fairly and equitably met.
“Therefore, I hope that the funds received will be used wisely, and that expenditure and utilisation reports are submitted to Unifor.”
Present to receive the cheques were Voon Et Leong, chairman of the Saratok Buddhist Religious Association; and Pemanca Lim Guan Ann, chairman of the Ji Yuan Shan She Saratok Moral Charity and Welfare Association.
In a separate development, Krian assemblyman Friday Belik also presented Phase 2 Minor Rural Project (MRP) cheques to 20 Village Development and Security Committees (JKKK), two associations, one church, and one Parent-Teacher Association (PIBG).
He also presented two Unifor cheques to two churches in the Krian constituency.
In total, RM498,000 was distributed.
