TEL AVIV, Israel: At least 17 people have been killed in an Israeli airstrike on a building in the Gaza Strip, German Press Agency (dpa) reported.

The Hamas-run civil defence agency said on Wednesday that the building in the al-Zeitoun district of Gaza City was housing families displaced by the war, adding that seven minors were among the dead.

The information could not be independently verified.

The Israeli military did not immediately comment.

In a separate Israeli airstrike, the director of the Indonesian Hospital, Marwan Sultan, and his family were killed in their home in Gaza City, according to the Hamas-run Health Ministry.

The Indonesian Hospital, located in Beit Lahia in northern Gaza, was cleared by Israeli forces in May and has not been operational since.

According to Gaza health authorities, more than 57,000 Palestinians have been killed since the start of the war on October 7, 2023.

The figures do not distinguish between civilians and combatants. – BERNAMA-dpa
