KUCHING: The 23rd Asian Television Awards (ATA) is a massive platform to promote the state to the world, being rich in diversity and nature.

This was said by Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Karim Rahman Hamzah during a press conference at Riverside Astana Wing, yesterday.

According to Karim, the event which will be broadcast live by many international TV agencies, will able to showcase the beauty and uniqueness of Sarawak.

“I was very excited and proud as Sarawak was selected as the venue for this big event and it is the first in the state and even in Malaysia,

“Many international celebrities will gather in Kuching to receive their awards and I believe with the opportunity, they will see the beauty of this city with its diversity,” he said.

Meanwhile, the 23rd ATA chairman Lee Keen Whye said it is also an opportunity for the media industry players to recce the area for locations for future television programmes.

“More than 100 will be attending this event and we want to expose them to Sarawak.

“Hoping they can spend more time here and get to know more about Sarawak, they can use Sarawak as locations for their future projects because the industry is changing and they have to think out-of-the-box,” he said.

Other than for working purposes, he hoped that they would return to Sarawak for leisure.

“We also want them to come here and get away from the big crowds and be more relaxed.

“This is important because the television industry itself is always changing, so they need time to reflect,” he said.
