KUCHING: If you are looking for something unique and special this holiday season, then you should not miss Society Atelier Sarawak’s unique arts and crafts bazaar to be held at the Lobby of Pullman Hotel Kuching this weekend (16-17 Dec) from 11am to 8pm at the World Ikat Textiles Exhibition space.

There are the newly woven Iban silk and cotton ‘pua kumbu’ ikat textiles from Rumah Garie longhouse, Ulu Kapit; the hand-plaited rattan platters, bags and baskets from Penan communities supported by Tanoti; handmade puppets by Lucia-Jan Bong; Michael Lim’s copper and fiber hornbill figurines; Ramsay Ong’s fashion accessories; ikat textiles of Narda’s of Philippines; embroidered batik ‘selendang’ shawls from Indonesia; double ikat silk shwls from Chabatik of Thailand etc.

Edric Ong, renowned international fashion designer and fiber artist from Sarawak, will be offering for charity sale for the first time his newly discovered wild fig’ dyed limited edition silks and cottons. Sales proceeds will go toward supporting Orang Asli communities at Kampung Air Runtuh, Kampung Pabai, Kampung Ulu Chuai ( Rembau and Kuala Pilah) just to name a few.

The Atelier Arts Bazaar also marks the end of the season of the World Ikat Textiles Exhibition in Kuching which started on 1 December and launched by Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah and his wife Datin Amar Doreen Uggah.

The travelling exhibition featuring Ikat Textiles from 25 countries, first premiered in London, and then in New Delhi. It will next travel to Bangkok, Thailand. It is open to the public free of charge.
