BAU: The seven-year-old boy with autism reported missing from Kampung Tembawang Sauh here was found safe today (Feb 5) after spending about a day alone in a forested area.

Bau Police Chief, Mohd Haide A. Rahman, confirmed that the boy was discovered at around 2.30 pm near a small stream, about two kilometres from his home.

The child was found with his body partially wrapped in leaves and sustained minor injuries.

He was located within a 500-metre radius of where his clothing had earlier been found.

Personnel from the Fire and Rescue Department’s Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) unit immediately provided medical assistance at the scene.

Following the boy’s safe discovery, the search and rescue (SAR) operation was ended at 3.30 pm.

On Wednesday (Feb 4), the boy was reported missing after his family realised he was no longer in the living room of their house at around 1.30 pm.

Immediate efforts to locate him in the surrounding area were unsuccessful, prompting a police report to be lodged.

A multi-agency SAR operation was subsequently launched, involving firefighters, police and the Civil Defence Force (APM).

During the search, the boy’s trousers and slippers were found near a waterfall about two kilometres from his home.
