PUTRAJAYA: Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan attended the National Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) meeting in Putrajaya on Wednesday, to review Malaysia’s progress toward the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda.

The meeting served as a high-level platform to assess Malaysia’s progress in integrating the SDGs into national and state development frameworks.

It also provided an avenue for stakeholders to share best practices and strengthen collaboration in advancing sustainable, inclusive and resilient growth across the nation.

“Sarawak’s development policy is firmly aligned with the SDGs, reflecting the State’s commitment to inclusive and sustainable growth.

“This is clearly embedded in the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030, which envisions Sarawak as a developed state by 2030, anchored on three main pillars: economic prosperity, social inclusivity and environmental sustainability,” said Awang Tengah.

To reinforce the implementation of SDG-related initiatives, the Sarawak Government has established the Sarawak SDG Committee as a strategic mechanism to coordinate and monitor the State’s progress towards achieving the global goals.

The initiative aims to integrate all 17 SDGs into Sarawak’s policies and programmes to ensure that sustainable and inclusive development is achieved across all sectors.

The Sarawak SDG Committee comprises a Steering Committee, a Technical Committee, and seven Working Groups focusing on key thematic areas – Economic Growth, Inclusivity and Well-being, Sustainable Financing, Education, Innovation and Human Capital, Environment and Natural Resources, SDG Localisation and Urban Development, and SDG Local Action and Community Resilience.

Awang Tengah shared that the Sarawak SDG Roadmap for 24 Local Authorities was officially launched on October 21.

“This action plan will be implemented in phases, beginning with the Padawan Municipal Council and Kota Samarahan Municipal Council, as part of ongoing efforts to localise SDG practices and strengthen community-based sustainability initiatives,” he said.

He added that Sarawak remained deeply committed to driving sustainable growth by ensuring that economic progress goes hand-in-hand with environmental protection and social inclusion, in line with both national and global sustainability goals.
