KUCHING: Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan recently conducted a special visit to the Wisma Melayu Sarawak project site to review the progress of the development.

Awang Tengah, who is also Minister for Natural Resources and Urban Development II as well as Minister for International Trade, Industry and Investment, made the visit in his capacity as chairman of the Board of Trustees of Amanah Khairat Yayasan Budaya Melayu Sarawak (AKYBMS).

The visit aims to obtain updates on the progress of construction works and ensure that all development components are implemented according to the planned schedule, specifications and overall project framework.

During the visit, he received a briefing from the project management team on the current status of construction, ongoing works and the implementation plan for the final phase of the project.

He also reviewed several key components of the development to ensure that the facilities will support various social, cultural, educational, and community programmes for the Malay community in Sarawak.

Once completed, Wisma Melayu Sarawak is expected to serve as a major centre for activities of the Malay community in the state, while strengthening the identity, history, arts and cultural heritage of Sarawak Malays.

The development also aligns with AKYBMS’ aspiration to continue preserving, conserving and promoting Malay cultural heritage in Sarawak for present and future generations.
