KUCHING: Sarawak’s progress today is the result of unity among its multiracial communities and the commitment of past and present leaders in steering the state’s development.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said the success enjoyed by Sarawak was built on the strong cooperation among its people of various ethnic backgrounds, which had enabled the state to continue moving forward.
“In the spirit of Sarawak Day, we witness the state’s growing progress through a new economic transformation driven by renewable energy, the digital economy and high-value industries,” he said in a special Sarawak Day 2026 message on Tuesday (July 21).
Awang Tengah said the Sarawak Day celebration served as an important platform to commemorate the history of Sarawak’s formation while strengthening the people’s sense of unity and identity.
He said the historic date of July 22 marked the beginning of Sarawak’s administration by local leaders, laying the foundation for the state’s journey as a sovereign territory before the formation of Malaysia.
He added that various state government initiatives, including the implementation of free higher education for Sarawakian children and infrastructure development such as roads, bridges and rural connectivity networks, continued to enhance the people’s wellbeing.
He also stressed that development efforts undertaken were not merely focused on physical infrastructure, but also aimed at creating opportunities for a more prosperous and inclusive future for all Sarawakians.
At the same time, he noted that Sarawak would continue to strengthen its commitment to safeguarding the state’s rights in accordance with the Federal Constitution, the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) and the Inter-Governmental Committee (IGC) Report.
In this regard, he called on all Sarawakians to continue preserving unity and harmony while working together to advance the state for the wellbeing of present and future generations.
“Together, let us build a more prosperous, inclusive and resilient state for a brighter future,” he said, concluding his message with hopes that Sarawak would continue to progress in peace and receive blessings.
