BINTULU: The wish of around 8,000 residents of the Bandaria People’s Housing Projects (PPR) apartments here to become homeowners is now under consideration.

The concept of the 1,000 apartment units built by the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) is currently on a rent-to-own basis.

Concerned about the applications from residents of various ethnic and religious backgrounds, Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said he would bring the residents’ requests to the relevant authorities.

“I will consult with the HDC on this matter,” he said during the People’s Leadership Programme at PPR Bandaria here today (Nov 3).

Also present were Sarawak Legislative Assembly Speaker Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar; Women and Early Childhood Development Deputy Minister Datuk Rosey Yunus; Beting Maro assemblyman Razaili Gapor; Lawas MP Datuk Henry Sum Agong; Lingga assemblywoman Dayang Noorazah Awang Sohor and Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidate for the Jepak state by-election, Iskandar Turkee.

Awang Tengah also assured that the issue of water pressure in the housing area is being addressed.

“I will investigate the root cause of this issue. Additionally, concerns about access to nearby schools will also be brought to the relevant ministry.”

He stated that GPS is mobilising the party’s machinery to ensure that voters do not encounter problems when casting their votes during the Jepak by-election.

“We want our party machinery to focus on ensuring that voters can easily cast their ballots. This is crucial because our victory depends on voter turnout.”
