BINTULU: Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan has called on all applicants of Native Customary Rights (NCR) land to fully cooperate by being present on site during the land survey process.

According to him, one of the main reasons for delays in land surveying is the failure of applicants to be present when the technical team conducts survey work.

“We issue notices to come to the field, but when we arrive, the people who requested the survey don’t show up.

“Even when the date is changed, they still don’t come. Then they get angry at the government. They should be angry at themselves,” he said firmly.

He made these remarks during the Presentation Ceremony of Land Titles under Section 18 of the Sarawak Land Code (KTN) under the Second Phase of the New NCR Initiative for the Bintulu area, held at a hotel here today.

Awang Tengah, who is also Sarawak’s Natural Resources and Urban Development Second Minister cum International Trade, Industry and Investment Minister, stressed that cooperation from applicants and community leaders such as tuai rumah (longhouse chiefs), penghulu (regional chiefs), and village heads is crucial to ensure boundary verification can be carried out smoothly and accurately.

“Villagers are the ones who know their land boundaries best.

“If they come to the site and clearly show the boundaries, the survey work can be completed quickly, and land titles can be issued earlier,” he said.

He also reminded the public that the government fully covers the cost of surveying NCR land, and no fees are required from the people for this process.

Therefore, he stressed, this opportunity should be fully utilised by giving full cooperation to the teams conducting fieldwork.
