KUCHING: Amazon Web Services (AWS) is investing in the public sector  in Sarawak because of the state’s growing economy.

AWS’ regional managing director for worldwide public sector in ASEAN, Eric Conrad said that the company was attracted by the state’s bold vision that had been spelt out in the Sarawak Digital Economy Blueprint 2030.

He said AWS looked forward to working together with its partners like the Centre for Technical Excellence (CENTEXS) and its chief executive officer Datuk Syeed Mohd Hussien and other key figures  for meaningful impacts in the state.

He said this during the media briefing for the Sarawak Public Sector Innovation Forum at Hilton Hotel here today.

Conrad emphasised that investments on infrastructure was crucial to meet the needs of its customers.

“What we do is we’re constantly listening to the demands  of our customers to understand where those demands are and make sure that we have the right infrastructure to support them.

“AWS believes in supporting the spectrum of infrastructure and there are many different ways in which we can support the demands in Sarawak.

“And we’re keen to continue that positive relationship because Sarawak’s future is very bright and we believe our position in Malaysia will continue to strengthen over time,” he added.

On the technology development, Syeed Mohd stated that the seriousness of it was shown by the state government’s investment in CENTEXS.

“As Utility and Telecommunication Minister Datuk Seri Julaihi Narawi said in his speech, we are not just talking, we walk the talk.

“At the same time, we have other developments as well such as the development of telecommunication tower by Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA).

“Billions of ringgit poured in by the state government show how serious it is about the projects,” he added.
