KUCHING: The media plays a critical role in shaping public understanding of development issues.
And non-governmental organisations (NGOs) like Angkatan Zaman Mansang (Azam) Sarawak are acutely aware that they depend on effective communication to engage with communities and stakeholders.
In recognition of this, Azam Sarawak hosted its annual Azam Media Coffee Chat 2025, themed “Jargon Made Simpler”, as part of a strategic initiative to enhance collaboration with media professionals.
The programme focused on demystifying technical and development-related language, making it more accessible and relatable to the public.
Delivering the keynote address, Deputy Minister of Energy and Environmental Sustainability, Datuk Dr Hazland Abang Hipni, underscored the importance of such efforts.
“The media are vital partners in conveying the state’s development policies. By simplifying technical jargon, we ensure development messages reach the people more effectively and inclusively,” he said at the event on Monday (May5).
The event brought together journalists, editors, and guest speakers from key sectors including energy, environment, digital economy, and urban planning.
It served as a platform for building stronger ties between media and development agencies, encouraging open dialogue, knowledge exchange and strategic engagement.
IChief Executive Officer of Azam Sarawak, Ali Suhaili said the initiative aligns with Sarawak’s development communication strategy.
“Azam is committed to making development communication clearer and more relevant to all levels of society. Through programmes like the Coffee Chat, we enable media professionals to better understand complex concepts, thereby strengthening inclusive and comprehensive development narratives.”
