KUCHING: A “Sedia Akaun Kendiri, Tabung & Ilmu” (SAKTI) programme was held over two days in Betong to strengthen financial literacy and digital empowerment among rural communities.

The May 24-25 initiative was jointly organised by Angkatan Zaman Mansang (AZAM) Sarawak, YES Sarawak and Ibrandium Resources.

Acting Deputy Resident of Betong, Hamdan Katang, described AZAM Sarawak’s efforts in empowering rural communities through financial education as a proactive approach worth emulating.

“This strategic collaboration clearly proves that when agencies, communities, and youth work together, we can create a programme that is not only meaningful but also capable of changing how society thinks about financial management,” he said.

Chief Executive Officer of AZAM Sarawak, Ali Suhaili, said the programme is part of AZAM’s commitment to help communities better understand government policies effectively.

“This programme aligns with AZAM’s mission to expand public understanding of government policies and to motivate communities to become agents of development. The effectiveness of strategic communication in empowering grassroots communities through financial education is a clear testament to our commitment,” he said.

The SAKTI programme featured an interactive learning approach, including financial simulations, talks by local financial institutions and financial experts, as well as engaging game activities conducted by the AZAM Young Souls (AYS) team.

This approach helped participants to understand real financial situations, the risks of impulsive spending, financial scams, and the importance of discipline in money management in a more practical manner.
