KUCHING : As Sarawak prepares to play host to the opening ceremony of the 2027 SEA Games, the spotlight is increasingly focused on grassroots sports development and nurturing young talent who can represent the state and country on the international stage.

In line with this vision, AZAM Sarawak continues its commitment to empowering youth through meaningful involvement in leadership and sports programmes.

In a press statement issued by the organisation on Saturday, it stated one such initiative includes supporting the ‘Court of Champions 3×3 Basketball Tournament 2025’, organised by final-year students of SEGi College Sarawak.

The tournament, held at Chung Hua Middle School No. 1, brought together young athletes from institutions such as Swinburne University of Technology, Lodge School, and Chung Hua Middle School No. 4 – celebrating not just competition, but also sportsmanship, unity and youth potential.

The closing ceremony was officiated by Ali Suhaili, AZAM Sarawak Chief Executive Officer, who also shared his aspirations with the participants.

“This tournament is more than just about basketball – it’s a movement for progress.

“Through sports, youth develop not only physical skills but also essential values such as leadership, teamwork, and resilience.

“These are the very values we uphold at AZAM Sarawak,” he said.

He further encouraged all participants to stay engaged in positive and empowering initiatives.

Ali also announced that AZAM will continue rolling out youth-focused programmes across the state, including platforms like the AZAM-MYSED Speakers Club and outreach projects in rural areas such as Lawas, providing young people with opportunities to lead and contribute meaningfully to their communities.

“To all the players, win or lose, your courage and spirit already make you champions,” he added.

AZAM Sarawak also expressed full support for youth-led initiatives, and continues to promote the active involvement of its youth members through AZAM Young Souls (AYS).

Under this platform, AYS members are encouraged to participate in sports activities and leadership development, contributing to the overall goal of producing well-rounded, proactive and empowered young Sarawakians.
