KUCHING: Angkatan Zaman Mansang Sarawak (AZAM) stepped up its digital transformation agenda with the organisation of the Canva Training 101 at the AZAM Complex on Thursday (Feb 12).

The workshop gathered 30 participants from across the AZAM ecosystem, including board members, management and staff, members of the organisation, and youth through the AZAM Young Souls (AYS) platform.

The programme forms part of AZAM’s ongoing efforts to enhance digital literacy and visual communication capabilities among its members, in line with current demands for more creative, timely and impactful information delivery.

In his closing remarks, AZAM Sarawak’s Chief Executive Officer, Ali Suhaili, said the training was a strategic step to ensure the organisation remains relevant in the digital era.

“Digital transformation is no longer an option, but a necessity,” he added.

“AZAM must ensure that its entire ecosystem possesses basic skills in design and visual communication so that messages delivered are clearer, consistent and effective.”

According to Ali, mastering basic digital tools, such as Canva, would enhance the professionalism of organisational communications, particularly in producing promotional materials, presentation slides, and social media content aligned with AZAM’s corporate identity.

Meanwhile, AZAM board member and Strategic Communication and Media Committee deputy chairperson, Alice Wee, described the training as timely in strengthening AZAM’s role as a communication-based organisation.

“As an organisation practising participatory communication in Sarawak, AZAM must ensure that messages are not only accurate in content but also effective visually,” she said.

“This capability enhances credibility and the effectiveness of information delivery to the community.”

During the workshop, participants were introduced to the basic principles of visual communication, the design of promotional materials and programme posters, the preparation of professional presentation slides, and the production of consistent social media content.

The session also outlined the differences between Canva and PowerPoint (PPTX), highlighting distinctions in functionality, layout flexibility and the availability of digital templates.

AZAM said the initiative supports its broader ‘Mansang’ aspiration, to move forward progressively, knowledgeably and competitively, while fostering a culture of continuous learning and collective upskilling within the organisation.

As a communication-focused organisation, AZAM Sarawak said it remains committed to strengthening digital capabilities among its members and extending these skills to communities through training, knowledge-sharing and outreach programmes.

Moving forward, AZAM plans to intensify efforts to digitalise its communication approaches under its Digital for Impact agenda, aimed at improving digital readiness and literacy among Sarawakians.
