KUCHING: Mohamad Isma, a student from Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), has been elected as the new president of the Angkatan Zaman Mansang Sarawak (AZAM) Youth Club of Kuching City.
Also known as AZAM Young Souls (AYS), the club selected its new leadership for the 2026-2028 term during its annual general meeting on Thursday (March 12).
AZAM Sarawaks Chief Executive Officer, Ali Suhaili, said platforms such as AZAM Young Souls play an important role in shaping a competitive young generation while raising awareness of their roles within society.
“AZAM Young Souls provides a space for youths to develop their potential, nurture leadership skills and actively participate in various community initiatives,” he added.
The meeting was followed by a sungkei (breaking of fast) gathering with the management team of AZAM Sarawak and AYS members, held in conjunction with the month of Ramadan.
For the new term, the AYS organisational structure has also been revamped with a composition of six positions in the Supreme Committee and 23 Exco members who will support the implementation of various programmes and activities of the club.
This composition was introduced as a new approach compared to the previous leadership structure, aimed at strengthening organisational management, expanding member participation, and enhancing the efficiency of youth programme implementation under the AZAM Young Souls platform.
Ali added that AZAM hopes AYS will not only remain relevant in Kuching but also grow as an active youth platform throughout Sarawak, creating more opportunities for young people to engage in leadership and community development programmes.
“Through platforms like this, we hope more youths will step forward to contribute to community development and strengthen the spirit of volunteerism among the younger generation,” he said further.
Ali also expressed his appreciation to Theron Then, who led AYS during the previous term, for his contributions and commitment in driving various youth development programmes under the platform.
Meanwhile, Isma said he appreciated the trust given by AYS members and is committed to continuing efforts to strengthen the club’s role as a dynamic youth development platform.
“With the support of the new committee members and AYS members, we are committed to expanding youth participation in programmes that benefit the community,” he added.
