KUALA LUMPUR: Taekwondo Malaysia President, Azizul Annuar Adenan, made history after being elected as one of the Vice-Presidents of the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) for the 2025–2029 term.
Azizul, who is also the Tanjong Datu assemblyman in Sarawak, received 81 votes, the highest among the four elected Vice-Presidents, during the 44th OCM Annual General Assembly held here on Saturday.
His election is seen as a significant step in strengthening the sports landscape in Malaysia, especially in Sarawak.
Meanwhile, Tan Sri Mohamad Norza Zakaria was re-elected unopposed as OCM President, extending his leadership until 2029.
Also drawing attention was the election of Datuk Nur Azmi Ahmad as the new OCM Deputy President, filling the vacancy left by former Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) President, Tan Sri Hamidin Mohd Amin, who did not seek re-election.
Nur Azmi, who is also the President of the Malaysia Karate Federation (MAKAF), defeated the Malaysia Lawn Bowls Federation (PLBM) President, Datuk Awalan Abdul Aziz, with a 70-20 majority.
