LUNDU: Lundu and Sematan hold out much tourism potential but basic infrastructure must first be in place to realise this long term goal.

Tanjong Datu assemblyman Azizul Annuar Adenan has therefore taken it upon himself to make it a priority.

“As an elected representative, my priority is all of you and as long as the community in Tanjong Datu does not have the opportunity to enjoy complete basic infrastructures, I will not be satisfied,” he said during the “Randau Pemimpin Bersama Masyarakat” Programme Tanjong Datu (Lundu Zone) here on Monday.

“Although the Lundu and Sematan areas are seen as areas with great potential in terms of tourism product development, the first priority should be the development of basic infrastructure,” he said.

Azizul also informed that he had met with Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg to discuss development projects, especially on basic infrastructure such as erosion embankment projects, drainage systems and also roads to houses in the village area, on top of his plans to upgrade bridges in villages in the Lundu and Sematan areas.

Meanwhile, Azizul took the opportunity to congratulate all the ketua kaum in Lundu zone who have resumed their services and also the new appointments.

“All the ketua kaum should be careful in preparing their plans in administering their respective villages and they should be firm and impartial in their management of their respective villages,” he added.

Earlier in the same ceremony, a consultation (randau) session was held between the Lundu district officer, Gustian Durani with ketua masyarakat, ketua kaum and village development and security committees (JKKK) who were present to give them the opportunity to raise development issues in their respective areas.

Gustian also provided feedback and clarification on development and the latest status of development projects, especially in regards to basic infrastructure in Lundu district.

About 70 guests attended the programme which was organised by the Lundu district office in collaboration with Tanjong Datu Service Centre and held at the Mahligai Gading Hall.

Also present alongside Gustian Durani were Pemanca Lo Sin Li and Pemanca Benjamin Gersit Jais.
