Sarawakians have been urged to rally behind Kuching City FC ahead of the club’s historic Malaysia Cup final against Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) at the National Stadium Bukit Jalil on May 23.

Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said Kuching City’s achievement reflected the continued growth of football in Sarawak and the legacy built by past football leaders in the state.

“Today, we are witnessing the continuation of that legacy through the remarkable achievement of Kuching City FC,” he said during his ministerial winding-up speech at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting today (May 19).

Abdul Karim noted that Kuching City had created history by qualifying for the Malaysia Cup final for the first time since the club’s establishment.

“I would also like to call upon the people of Sarawak to extend our fullest support to Kuching City FC,” he added.

The Cats have enjoyed one of their strongest campaigns in recent seasons under head coach Aidil Sharin Sahak, emerging as one of the more consistent teams in domestic competition.

Kuching City secured their place in the Malaysia Cup final after edging Selangor FC 2-1 on aggregate in the semi-finals.

Their victory set up a showdown against defending champions JDT, who remain one of the dominant forces in Malaysian football.

The final at Bukit Jalil will mark the biggest match in Kuching City’s history since the club’s rise into the top tier of Malaysian football.
