KUCHING: A backyard tree care workshop will be held on Sept ember 27 (next Saturday) to encourage safe and sustainable management of fruit and shade trees in line with the city’s ‘Urban Green’ mission.
City Growers Kuching said the half-day session will run from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm at an urban farm on 1458 Jalan Batu Lintang 12A, to be led by a certified arborist.
The group said tree care is vital in tropical conditions, where unmanaged branches can threaten safety, while neglected fruit trees such as mango, rambutan and durian are vulnerable to pests and disease.
“Not all classrooms have four walls,” a City Growers Kuching representative said in a statement.
“This workshop embodies the spirit of ‘Urban Green’, taking learning outdoors while caring for trees to create a safer, greener and more resilient city.”
The community added that healthier and well-maintained trees improve productivity, enhance property values, and contribute to community harmony through safer and greener outdoor spaces.
The trainers are ISA Certified Arborists and accredited by the Industrial Rope Access Trade Association (IRATA), ensuring international standards in safety and professional practice.
Workshop highlights include safe and effective care techniques, structured management to boost fruit yield, and guidance on managing tree size and form for backyard landscapes.
The fee is RM120, inclusive of light refreshments, and registration can be made via QR code on the official poster. Spaces are limited.
City Growers Kuching is a community-based initiative promoting sustainable urban farming, backyard care, and green lifestyles through workshops, knowledge sharing, and hands-on training.
