KUCHING: A special gathering was held to strengthen ties among a group of language facilitators and renew their commitment to promoting the use of Bahasa Malaysia among civil servants in Sarawak.
The gathering on Saturday reunited a group of former facilitators who had conducted Bahasa Malaysia courses under the Malaysian Language Unit, in the then Chief Minister’s Department of Sarawak.
The gathering was initiated by Suara Sarawak (SS) and Sarawak Tribune (ST) chief executive officer (CEO) Datuk Dr Jeniri Amir, a well-known facilitator who also served as the main sponsor of the dinner event.
Established on March 15, 1981, the Malaysian Language Unit has played a crucial role in ensuring that Sarawak government officials are proficient in using Bahasa Malaysia efficiently and effectively in their official duties, such as writing letters, memos, meeting minutes, reports, and more.
The establishment of this unit was aimed at making Bahasa Malaysia more dominant in Sarawak’s public sector and to ensure its accurate use in official government communication.
Facilitators present at the gathering are passionate about Bahasa Malaysia and continue to fully support efforts to promote its use among government officers.
Mustapha Abdullah, who was responsible for organisiing the gathering, expressed his gratitude for the willingness of the former facilitators to attend.
He extended his heartfelt thanks to Dr Jeniri for his generosity in sponsoring the dinner event.
Dr Jeniri also expressed hope that a second gathering could be organised in the future to further strengthen the commitment of all parties.
