BARAM: The new Bailey bridge across Sungai Baleh has been completed five months ahead of schedule, restoring connectivity in the area much earlier than anticipated for the benefit of local residents.
In a Facebook posting, Public Works Department (PWD) Sarawak’s Director, Datuk Cassidy Morris, said he inspected the fully installed Bailey bridge spanning Sungai Baleh, as part of his Project Empowerment Visit series today.
The early completion has enabled faster restoration of transport access in the area, easing movement for communities who rely on the route for their daily activities.
The Bailey bridge was supplied by the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) under its logistical support initiative aimed at expediting alternative access routes, particularly in rural and interior areas requiring immediate solutions.
In terms of scope, the project involved the construction of a Triple Double Reinforced (TDR) Bailey bridge using a 17-panel Bailey Bridge System, designed to ensure structural strength and safer load-bearing capacity for traffic use.
The implementation reflects the strategic collaboration between NADMA and PWD Sarawak in delivering efficient and effective temporary infrastructure to support mobility and the well-being of communities in Sarawak’s interior.
