KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s Genevie Lim-Low Zi Yu defeated China’s Shi Si Chen-Xiang Yu Jin to check into the girls’ doubles semi-finals at the Badminton Asia Junior Championships (BAJC) in Yatsushiro, Japan, today.
The Malaysians needed 41 minutes to overcome Si Chen-Yu Jin 21-12, 21-16 in the quarter-finals at the Yatsushiro City General Gymnasium.
Genevie-Zi Yu can expect a tougher time in the last four as they will be up against second seeds Aoi Banno-Yuzu Ueno of Japan.
Zi Yu will also be in the mixed doubles semi-final action after she and her partner, Ahmad Redzuan Zulwaqqarizal Ahmad, fought back from a game down to beat Indonesia’s Moses Andar Simanjuntak-Reya Azzahra Yulianti 19-21, 21-15, 21-9 in the last eight today (July 3).
Second seeds Ahmad Redzuan-Zi Yu will next face Taiwan’s Lin Sheng Ming-Sun Liang Ching for a place in Sunday’s final.
It was, however, the end of the road for national boys’ singles shuttlers Kong Wei Xiang and Tiew Wei Jie after they crashed out in the quarter-finals.
Wei Xiang lost 19-21, 20-22 to Indonesia’s Fardhan Rainanda Joe while Wei Jie went down fighting 21-16, 19-21, 21-23 to China’s Hong Tian Yue. — BERNAMA
