KUCHING: The RM15-million Balai Ringin Sports Complex, also known as Mini Stadium Balai Ringin, is set to be officially launched this Sunday (June 29).

The ceremony will be officiated by Minister for Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Sarawak, Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

According to a Facebook post by Balai Ringin assemblyman Datuk Snowdan Lawan, the official event will take place at 10:30 am, after which the facility will be ready for public use.

Construction of the complex began in 2021, following its groundbreaking ceremony on April 10 that year, which was officiated by Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

A key highlight of the complex is its running track, which has received the World Athletics Class 2 certification, similar to the track at Stadium Negeri Sarawak.

“This internationally recognised certification allows the venue to host national, regional, and certain international competitions, with performances, records, and qualifying times officially recognised by World Athletics for rankings and entries into global events.

“The newly completed sports complex features a Class 2 synthetic track encircling a football field, two international-standard futsal courts, and a community hall that can accommodate around 1,000 people,” Snowdan stated.

The hall is equipped for badminton, sepak takraw and pickleball, while the facility also features a rock-climbing wall and a grandstand that can seat about 1,000 spectators.

Snowdan also said the new facility is expected to serve as a key venue for sporting and community activities, particularly in promoting youth engagement and developing local talent in various sports.

The World Athletics Class 2 Certificate, awarded to Balai Ringin Sports Complex, recognises its compliance with international standards for track and field competitions.
