EVERY day at work, Azrin Azmi finishes his tasks as quickly as he can. From the moment he leaves home at 8:00 am, he looks forward to returning in the evening. It’s the cheerful shout from his youngest son – “Dad is home!” —-that encourages him throughout the day.
A courier handler for local delivery service Ninja Van for 10 years, Azrin shared that his career move was intentional.
“I used to work as an ATM technician. Then I saw a job advertisement for a courier handler. It looked promising, and I saw it as a good opportunity for a career change,” said the 37-year-old.
The father of three explained that the switch was due to a higher income – enough to support his family – as well as the flexibility it offered. For him, it was an opportunity that benefited the whole household. When it’s time for work, he devotes himself entirely to the job. And when he’s off duty, Azrin gives his full attention to his family.
“So, I start my journey at 8:00 am, and I continue until I’ve delivered all the parcels and packages. Some days I return before five in the evening. Other days, I come home only after the sun has set.”
At first, Azrin was nervous. He felt lost amid the countless addresses he had to navigate. But he quickly learned to rely on Google Maps and got familiar with new locations. Today, delivering parcels no longer takes long, as he has mastered the art of route planning for efficiency.

To raise a family
When he was younger, Azrin saw how his father worked non-stop – rarely taking time to slow down or enjoy the moment. He recalled how Father’s Day was not something they celebrated often, due to his father’s busy schedule.
Still, there were one or two occasions when they did manage to celebrate. With his own children, Azrin is determined to spend as much time with them as possible.
“Raising children can be challenging and demanding. That’s why it’s important to make sure we give them enough time and attention.
“Whenever I’m on leave or off work, I take them out for a walk or to play. For me, it’s important to manage time well so they can feel our love too,” he said.
Fathers – often the embodiment of responsibility and tough love – may not always say it, but they show their care through actions. For Azrin, life can be difficult at times, but his wife and three children are the beacon of hope that keeps him going.
“When times are tough, just thinking of my family is enough to lift up my spirits. As long as they’re healthy, happy, and successful, that’s more than enough for me to feel proud,” he said.
