KAPIT: The 28th edition of the Baleh-Kapit Rafting Safari is not only a showcase of endurance and sportsmanship but also a platform that continues to promote river-based tourism and celebrate local cultural heritage in the constituency.
Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Law and Native Customs) Datuk Jefferson Jamit Unyat said the annual event has become an iconic attraction that consistently draws widespread participation and public interest.
“We are proud of the commitment shown by all participants. Programmes like this unite communities through sport and culture while helping to boost the local tourism sector, bringing economic benefits to Kapit,” he told reporters after presenting prizes to the winners at the Kapit Passenger Terminal on Sunday (Jul 13).
The Bukit Goram assemblyman also praised the strong sportsmanship displayed throughout the event and acknowledged the large crowd of spectators from both within and outside the division who contributed to the vibrant atmosphere.
He added that the organisers are considering the introduction of new race categories, such as Formula One Air; similar to those previously held in Limbang, as part of efforts to diversify the event and attract more visitors and participants from beyond Kapit.
He thanked all parties involved, including government agencies, security personnel, schools, non-governmental organisations, and volunteers who worked together to ensure the smooth organisation of this year’s event.
