Balingian gets ready for Bederun Festival in September

The Balingian Bederun Festival will enliven the town of Balingian in September.

BALINGIAN: The 2025 Balingian Bederun Festival, which is full of cultural content, traditional sports and local economic activities, will enliven the town of Balingian from Sept 5 to 7.

Balingian Melanau Generation Association president and organizing committee co-chairman Hafizzul Abdul Halim said the festival is an iconic Balingian event.

“This festival introduces Balingian as one of the attractive tourist destinations in Sarawak.

“It will be held for seven days with the highlight taking place on the last three days.”

Hafizzul said this at the first coordination meeting for the festival at the Mukah District Office, here, Tuesday (July 8).

He added that the festival not only upholds local customs and traditions, but also helps stimulate local economic growth.

He noted that the main contents of the festival are Water Sports such as the Bidar Race (Regatta), traditional land games, development exhibitions and educational institutions, a Fun Bazaar and cultural stage performances.

Earlier, the meeting was chaired by Mukah District officer Peleadzman Ahip, who is also the joint chairman of the organising committee.

Also present were representatives of the Balingian Service Centre, Councilor Semaon Yusuf and Temenggong Hendi Suhai.
