SARATOK: Banana Chips Heritage has successfully entered overseas markets, marking a major milestone for the local enterprise after years of steady growth and expansion.

Banana Chips Heritage entrepreneur, Jamilah Unai, said the business, which started on a small scale in 2012, expanded more rapidly from 2022 after its production capacity was increased.

According to her, the company is now able to process between three and four tonnes of banana chips per month to meet growing market demand.

“Alhamdulillah, with the support and assistance from the government, this enterprise has grown to the point of owning its own Banana Chips Heritage Processing Centre in Taman Muhibbah, Saratok,” she said.

The processing centre was officially opened by Deputy Minister for Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development, Datuk Dr Ripin Lamat, on Friday.

In his speech, he stressed that the success of entrepreneurs like Jamilah should serve as inspiration to young people and local entrepreneurs as it creates a positive economic chain at the grassroots level.

“The development of the banana chips industry not only creates job opportunities but also benefits local farmers who now enjoy more stable market demand, thereby encouraging increased agricultural output,” he said.

He also noted that the Saratok area has strong potential to continue progressing in line with various ongoing development initiatives.
