NEW DELHI, India: Bangladesh will open a full-fledged embassy in Switzerland as it sees the European country as an important development and strategic partner.

A meeting chaired by interim government leader, Muhammad Yunus, on Thursday approved a proposal to establish the new diplomatic mission in the Swiss capital, Bern, news agency Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) reported.

Until now Bangladesh’s permanent mission accredited to the United Nations in Geneva has been looking after the country’s interests in Switzerland.

“Initially, the embassy will begin operations with the appointment of an ambassador, a first secretary, and several officials and staff. To date, Bangladesh has 82 mission offices in different countries around the world,” BSS reported. – BERNAMA
