Bank Rakyat to enhance presence in Sarawak

KUCHING: Bank Rakyat is set to enhance its presence in Sarawak by expanding banking services and introducing financing initiatives aimed at supporting the state’s growing green economy. 

Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Datuk Ewon Benedick revealed this during a courtesy call on the Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar at Astana Negeri today (Jan 27). 

“The initiatives include increasing the number of bank branches in key towns across Sarawak and implementing financing schemes tailored to support economic growth, particularly in the green energy sector,” he told the media after the courtesy call. 

He was accompanied by the ministry’s Secretary-General Datuk Seri Khairul Dzaimee Daud, Bank Rakyat chairman Datuk Mohd Irwan Mohd Mubarak, and other senior officials during the visit. 

The delegation also discussed Bank Rakyat’s performance and ongoing initiatives in Sarawak with the Governor, who shared valuable insights and recommendations for improving the bank’s services.  

“We also sought Tun’s views to incorporate as input for the new Cooperative Bill, which will be tabled in Parliament this year,” Ewon added. 

Meanwhile, Wan Junaidi commended Bank Rakyat for its role in supporting inclusive development across the state.

He expressed hope that the planned programmes would bring tangible benefits to the community, improve living standards, and drive comprehensive economic growth in Sarawak. 

These initiatives, he noted, reflect the close collaboration between the banking sector and the government in achieving sustainable development while enhancing the well-being of the people throughout the state.
