SEBUYAU: The 4.8-kilometre Batang Lupar Bridge 1 project has reached 87 per cent completion, with full completion expected by May next year.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas was briefed on the project’s (Package D2B) progress by the contractor and implementing agencies during his visit to the project site and the Second Trunk Road here today.
In his remarks, Uggah, who is also the Infrastructure and Port Development Minister, stressed the need for close monitoring to ensure that construction works comply with the planned schedule, quality standards, and safety requirements.
He also urged all parties involved to ensure that the government’s investment delivers tangible benefits to the people.
Meanwhile, Public Works Department (PWD) Sarawak, in a statement, said Uggah’s visits began with a technical briefing conducted by the contractor and implementing agencies, presenting the project’s progress status, current challenges, and implementation plans for the upcoming period.

The department added that the project forms part of the Sarawak Government’s efforts to strengthen the State’s road infrastructure network, especially in rural and coastal areas.
Implemented by Perbena Emas Sdn Bhd, the project has a total contract value of RM848,745,087.50.
The scope of works includes the construction of a two-lane single carriageway bridge crossing Batang Lupar built to PWD R5 standard, as well as a 194.4-metre-long reinforced earth wall approach, complete with roadside drains, guard rails, road furniture, and other related infrastructure.
The main objective of the project is to construct a permanent bridge to replace the Batang Lupar ferry service, providing safe and uninterrupted connectivity between coastal villages along Sebuyau and Triso.
Once completed, the bridge is expected to significantly reduce reliance on ferry services and act as a major catalyst for local economic growth – particularly in the agriculture, housing, and small and medium enterprise (SME) sectors – benefiting the communities in Sebuyau and its surrounding areas.
