SEBUYAU: Nine bridges across Sarawak are scheduled for completion in 2026, including the Batang Lupar Bridge 1, which has reached 93.09 per cent completion.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, said the Batang Lupar Bridge 1 project, a high-impact infrastructure development, is expected to be fully completed by mid-2026.

The bridge, spanning 4.8 kilometres across the Batang Lupar River, will link Meludam and Sebuyau, significantly improving connectivity for coastal communities in Sarawak.

He said the project forms a key component of efforts to strengthen the state’s transport network and enhance accessibility for residents, particularly in rural and coastal areas.

During a site visit to review progress, Uggah said a total of nine bridges are targeted for completion this year.

In addition to Batang Lupar Bridge 1, the other projects are the Batang Igan Bridge, Sungai Krian Bridge, Sungai Limbang Bridge, Batang Lupar Bridge 2, Batang Paloh Bridge, Saribas 2 Bridge, Sejingkat Bridge and Batang Rambungan Bridge.

He expressed appreciation to the Ministry of Infrastructure and Port Development (MIPD), the Sarawak Public Works Department (PWD Sarawak) and the entire project team for their continued commitment and cooperation in ensuring the timely implementation of the state’s strategic development projects.

Uggah said the completion of these bridges is expected to improve connectivity with the Pan Borneo Highway Sarawak, spur socio-economic growth, ease the movement of people and goods, and support Sarawak’s broader development agenda.
