SEMOP: The construction project of the Batang Paloh Bridge, valued at approximately RM298.494 million, has now recorded 76.92 per cent physical progress.

Deputy Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development Datuk Aidel Lariwoo said the project’s progress has experienced a delay of 97 days from the original schedule, compared to the initial target of 86.39 per cent completion.

However, he explained that the delay is being addressed with several recovery measures that have already been implemented by the contractor.

“This project will not only accelerate connectivity between rural and urban areas but also has the potential to generate various new economic opportunities for the local population,” he said during his working visit to the project site yesterday (June 10).

Also present was Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Corporate Affairs, Information and UKAS) Datuk Abdullah Saidol.

For the record, the original completion date of the bridge was set for January 15, 2026, but after the approved time extension, the new expected completion date is September 12, 2026.

Meanwhile, Abdullah said that the project is highly anticipated by the local community as it is expected to significantly transform their daily lives.

“Once completed, this bridge will save travel time and open up broader economic opportunities for the community, including in the tourism, agriculture, and small enterprise sectors,” said Abdullah.

The visit also included a technical briefing by the contractor and an inspection of several key project structures to assess the progress more closely.
