KUCHING: The construction of the Batang Rambungan Bridge is now targeted for completion by July 2026, 10 months earlier than initially planned.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the project is currently 2.68 per cent ahead of schedule, expressing confidence that the new contractor, Titanium Project Management Sdn Bhd, could meet the revised deadline.

“We are not simply snapping our fingers. We have made a careful assessment.
“The Public Works Department (PWD) can calculate how many metres can be built in a month. With the capital, materials, manpower, and experience they have, we believe they can help us complete the bridge by July 2026,” Uggah said during a working visit to the project site today.
Uggah, who also serves as Sarawak’s Infrastructure and Port Development Minister, assured that both his ministry and the PWD would continue to monitor the project’s progress closely.
He noted that most of the necessary materials are already at the site, except for the cables, which have been approved by PWD and are awaiting delivery.
“We don’t foresee major obstacles. With the weather seemingly improving, conditions are favourable for construction,” he said, adding, “However, we can’t be complacent. We will return in a month or two to monitor progress.”
The Batang Rambungan Bridge, spanning 560 metres and costing approximately RM82 million, is a two-lane, single-carriageway cable-stayed bridge and forms part of the Sarawak Coastal Road Network. It will connect Kuching to Lundu, replacing the existing ferry service along the route.
Titanium Project Management Sdn Bhd took over the project in November 2024 after previous delays. Since the takeover, progress has improved significantly, with about 60 per cent of the work completed by the end of 2024.
The contractor initially committed to completing the bridge within 30 months, targeting May 2027. However, with the accelerated pace of work, the new completion date has been brought forward to July 2026.
