SADONG JAYA: A total of RM885,500 has been allocated for education, infrastructure and community development projects across the Batang Sadong parliamentary constituency.
Sadong Member of Parliament, Rodiyah Sapiee, said the allocations reflected the government’s continued commitment to ensuring balanced development based on the needs of communities in Simunjan, Sadong Jaya and Gedong.
She was officiating at the cheque presentation and project handover programme for the P200 Batang Sadong constituency, held at several locations in Simunjan and Sadong Jaya on Wednesday (July 29).
Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS) said the programme saw the handover of four completed infrastructure projects worth a combined RM420,000, alongside the presentation of funding for community and education initiatives.
Among the completed projects was the upgrading of the covered open space at the Sadong Jaya Senior Citizens Activity Centre (PAWE), undertaken at a cost of RM120,000 through funding from the Sarawak State Development Office (SDO).
“The upgraded facility would provide senior citizens with a more comfortable venue to carry out community activities regardless of weather conditions,” said Rodiyah.
Three other completed projects under the Sarawak Government’s Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) and People-Friendly Project (PMR) were also handed over.
They comprised the construction of a security post and student waiting area at SK Gunong Ngeli (RM100,000), the upgrading of the Kampung Selangking public square (RM150,000), and the construction of a vehicle parking area in Kampung Sungai Buluh (RM50,000).
Apart from infrastructure development, eight outright grants (OG) totalling RM180,500 were presented to representatives of mosques, surau and churches to implement small-scale projects in their respective communities.
Meanwhile, 37 parent-teacher associations (PTAs) from schools in Simunjan, Sadong Jaya and Gedong received a combined RM285,000 to support educational, sports and student welfare programmes.
Six secondary schools each received RM15,000, while allocations for 31 primary schools were distributed according to student enrolment to ensure a fairer distribution of funds.
