LAWAS: Lawas Member of Parliament (MP), Datuk Henry Sum Agong, has hailed the National Youth Day Baton Run 2025 as a powerful symbol of unity and national pride.
He said that it reflected the important role young Malaysians need to impart in shaping the country’s future.
Speaking at the baton handover event held at Bazaar Merapok on Tuesday, Henry said the event not only ignited patriotic spirit but also portrayed the collective hopes carried by the nation’s younger generation.
“This programme delivers a strong message about the crucial role of youth in shaping the country’s future.
“It symbolises the hopes entrusted to the younger generation to continue driving Malaysia’s progress through unity,” he said.
The event, which brought together youth representatives from Saberkas Bukit Sari, Saberkas Ba’kelalan, local Merapok youth, and students from SMK Merapok, saw a vibrant display of solidarity and enthusiasm.
Henry was among the dignitaries who witnessed the handover of the baton by Sarawak Saberkas Working Secretary, Iszuan Haroni, representing Saberkas Secretary-General and Daro Assemblyman, Safiee Ahmad, to Sabah Youth Council President, Abqaree Fawwaz Abekan.
Also present were Sipitang MP, Datuk Matbali Musah; Sindumin Assemblyman, Datuk Yusuf Yacob; Lawas District Officer Ladin Atok, and others.
The baton, which began its journey across Malaysia as part of the National Youth Day celebrations, will continue on to Sabah before concluding in Kuala Lumpur for the closing of the National Youth Day celebration 2025.
