KUCHING: Batu Kitang State Assemblyman Datuk Lo Khere Chiang visited Taman Penrissen yesterday to provide assistance to a family whose home was completely destroyed in a fire over the weekend, just days before Chinese New Year.
The fire, which broke out at around 3 pm on Sunday along Kuching-Serian Road, razed the house of Sim Thian Hock and his family of five.
All family members escaped unharmed, but they lost all their belongings, including a family van.
During the visit, Lo distributed daily necessities, food items, and angpow to the affected family after inspecting the remains of the house.
He acknowledged the prompt response by the Padawan sub-district office, which had delivered emergency aid such as blankets and food supplies to help the family in the immediate aftermath.
Community groups, including Che Hia Khor Moral Uplifting and Persatuan Penganut Agama Tokong Hock Teck Padawan, also provided additional aid and angpow, demonstrating solidarity and compassion for the family.
Lo expressed sympathy for the family, noting that the timing of the fire was particularly distressing with Chinese New Year just around the corner, leaving Mr Sim and his family to stay with relatives.
He said that he would explore possible support from Sarawak Housing to arrange temporary accommodation, aiming to help the family rebuild their lives.
