BATU Kitang assemblyman, Datuk Lo Khere Chiang, urged the Sarawak Government to address concerns over fairness in civil service career progression, while reaffirming some pressing development needs within his constituency.
According to Lo, the number of civil servants under the Professional and Management (P&M) service track, especially those in the Grade 52 and Grade 13, felt overlooked after being excluded from the recent one off promotion exercise to Grade 54 and Grade 14.

“These officers had met the necessary requirements, including service duration, performance benchmarks and skills assessments and were part of the same structured pathway.
“This is a respectful appeal on behalf of those in my constituency and others in similar circumstances, to ensure fairness, consistency and continued encouragement for those who serve our people with dedication.
“Transparent and consistent career progression is crucial for morale and retention within the civil service, especially for officers who have served for decades,” he stressed when debating on the 2026 Sarawak Budget in the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting today.
Lo also highlighted several priority areas in his constituency that require continued attention, including safety, infrastructure reliability and flood mitigation.
“Elevated pedestrian walkways along Jalan Datuk Tawi Sli and Jalan Datuk Kalong Ningkan remain urgently needed, especially for students and senior citizens.
“Drainage upgrading work in Taman Kong Phin and Taman Dock San is needed due to the recurring flash floods during heavy rainfall,” he said.
He also raised concerns over inconsistent water supply affecting Kampung Bunga Rampai and the Mile 10 Bazaar area, stressing the need for more reliable distribution to households and small businesses.
“Efforts to improve water supply reliability for residents in Kampung Bunga Rampai and the Mile 10 Bazaar area are important to support both households and local businesses.
“Furthermore, the installation and enhancement of pedestrian crossings near Cyberjaya College and along Jalan Landeh would also significantly improve public safety,” he expressed.
Lo further requested clarification on the timeline for the tar-sealing of the Batu Kitang Bridge access road to Kampung Haji Baki.
“These routes are used daily by our community and timely completion will improve accessibility and safety,” he said.
