KUCHING: Preparations for Pesta Tasik Biru 2025 are progressing steadily ahead of its official launch on May 15.
Tasik Biru assemblyman, Datuk Henry Harry Jinep, said the organising committee together with government agencies, community leaders and private sector stakeholders are finalising all aspects of the event.
He said these include logistics, infrastructure upgrades, security and programme coordination for the festival which coincides with two historic milestones for the Bau district – its 205th anniversary and the inauguration of Tasik Biru Resort City.
“This year’s edition is especially meaningful. We are not only celebrating the long-standing tradition of Pesta Tasik Biru, but also ushering in a transformative chapter for Bau as we mark its 205th year and officially launch the Tasik Biru Resort City.
“These milestones mark a transformative chapter for Bau, positioning it as a vibrant cultural and economic hub within Sarawak,” he told Sarawak Tribune.
Henry, who is also the Transport (Riverine and Marine) Deputy Minister, expressed hope that the launch of Tasik Biru Resort City would serve as a catalyst for Bau’s development in the years to come.
“In conjunction with these milestones, my aspiration is for Tasik Biru to become a beacon of cultural pride, tourism excellence, and sustainable development in line with our vision of building a ‘Greater Bau’.
“The launch of Tasik Biru Resort City signifies a bold new chapter, positioning Bau as a key destination within Sarawak’s tourism circuit.
“I envision a future where our youth take pride in their roots while embracing innovation, and where local entrepreneurs thrive amid growing investment and recognition,” he said.
At the same time, Henry expressed hope for the celebration to foster social unity, economic upliftment, and a legacy of progress.
“Together, we will ensure Tasik Biru continues to evolve as a symbol of balanced development by honouring traditions while embracing the future,” he added.
The festival and celebrations, which will take place from May 15 to 25, will be officiated by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
Among the major attractions are the Jong Regatta and the Gawai Bazaar Bau, which will feature local food, handicrafts and performances by local talents.
Visitors can also look forward to a variety of sports tournaments, e-sports, busking nights and cultural showcases.
The festival will conclude with the Mrs and Miss Tasik Biru grand finale on the closing night.
