BAU: A total of 29 individuals were convicted of drug-related offences during the Bau Magistrate’s Court sitting on circuit on Friday, which heard 41 cases under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
Bau District Police chief Supt Mohd Haide A. Rahman said 23 individuals were charged under Section 15(1)(a), receiving fines between RM3,000 and RM4,000.
“Those who failed to pay were sentenced to 10 to 11 months’ imprisonment, plus a three-year supervision order.
“Meanwhile, some faced between two and four charges under the same section,” he said in a statement on Friday night.
Haide further said five individuals pleaded guilty under Section 12(2), with three fined between RM3,000 and RM3,500, or six months’ imprisonment in default of payment.
“Two others were sentenced to seven to 14 months in jail without the option of a fine,” he said.
In a separate case, one individual pleaded guilty under Section 39A(1) and was sentenced to 30 months’ imprisonment and three strokes of the cane.
The Bau Magistrate’s Court, sitting on circuit, will convene during the fourth week of every month to hear drug-related cases in the district.
