SIBU: The Bawang Assan community has been urged to work together with community leaders to ensure the development of their respective areas.

According to Temenggong, Datuk Vincent Lau Lee Ming, only through cooperation and unity can ensure the development of the area.

“If we have gotong-royong for example, it is a good activity and it will promote the spirit of togetherness.

“Every development of an area needs the cooperation from everyone.

“Do not leave all the work to our community leaders. I know that some councillors, Village Development and Security Committees (JKKKs) and other community leaders are really concerned about the livelihood of the people especially during flood season.

“No matter what activities, I also hope that apart from the leaders, our community can come together and work together because the success of every activity needs the cooperation from everyone.”

Lau said this at the Family Telematch and Mini Water Fiesta at SJKC Kwong Hua at Sg Sadit, Jalan Sungai Maaw here on Thursday.

He also thanked Ching Ang Methodist Church and JKKK Sungai Sadit Kanan for organising the programme on Labour’s Day.

He said this is a great opportunity to interact and connect, thus promoting friendship and unity and strengthen the community.

“The strength of a community comes from every family and the participation and care of everyone.

“Today’s event is rich and diverse, whether it is water games or competitions or interactive parent-child activities.”

Meanwhile, Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Bawang Assan chairman Councilor Kevin Lau expressed his gratitude for the great support from the community towards the event.

“It is because of your presence, our programme today is successful.  I thank the organisers for this programme.”

He added that community leaders will continue doing their best to serve the people and bring joy through activities like these.
