WIESBADEN, Germany: Bundesliga and German Cup champions, Bayern Munich, lost their first pre-season match 2-1 at third division Wehen Wiesbaden on Saturday in the absence of many players who had featured at the World Cup, reported German Press Agency (dpa).
Ibrahim Ati Allah and Lukas Schleimer scored for the hosts, who were celebrating their 100th year as a club, with Tom Bischof scoring Bayern’s equaliser from the penalty spot.
Bayern’s squad featured many youngsters, as well as Sacha Boey and João Palhinha, who have returned from loan spells and are expected to be sold.
Bayern’s World Cup starters led by England captain Harry Kane, France winger Michael Olise and Germany skipper Joshua Kimmich join pre-season training at a later stage.
Coach Vincent Kompany will start a training camp in Bavaria on Monday and a trip to Asia is also on the schedule before Bayern start the season with the German Super Cup match against Bundesliga runners-up, Borussia Dortmund, on August 22. – BERNAMA-dpa
